How To Not Succeed Online! How You Can Easily Fail With Internet Marketing…

Don't be a Make money online failure

As you begin your online journey in internet marketing and you aspire to make money online, you will notice that everyone seems to want to tell you how you can succeed. This is GREAT!….. right?…. or is it?

The internet is just as straight forward as the real world. There are people out there who wish to genuinely help you out and there are people who wish to screw you over. It can be more difficult to determine who is who since you don’t actually look people face to face or even hear their voice, and when you do, it seems like they are trying to sell you something….

It is EASY to FAIL in internet marketing!

Don’t be discouraged…. I say it because it is true!

Here’s why so many people will fail to make money online:

Information overload -

Whether you are new to internet marketing or you have been around for awhile, you should have noticed how easy it is to be bombarded with information from all angles. Everyone has the answer you are looking for… each person offers to help you for free…. Before you know it your mailbox is overloaded and you are wasting hours reading and researching, but never applying what you learn……

WHY?

Because you are learning too many different things at once…. Usually only parts of different ways to make money online…. I spend 6 months learning without taking any action, then another 3 or 4 taking action, but never completing an entire process…. no money is ever made this way!!

Most people try too hard -

One thing I have learned over the years is that the less you try to sell or to make money, the easier it is to do so. WHAT?! That makes no sense….. I guess you could just sit around and play games or cruise Facebook and never put any effort into making money online…. you would obviously not make any.

But, when you try so hard to set up your first perfect sales funnel and a sales letter and then write a sales copy in articles and tell everyone what wonderful product you are selling….. you can expect to see people avoiding you online more and more…. People don’t want to be sold to…. people want to be treated like people…

Instead of selling to people, try offering some free advice, free information, or just some goo conversation. When people get to know you, they will be more willing to buy a product that you suggest because they know it is valuable and not some junk you are just selling.

Lack of training -

Some people get lucky… they start out on their own and find a way to start making money online with no training and maybe copy the right persons ideas… Most of us aren’t that lucky. You can waste years and a lot of money trying to learn internet marketing all on your own.

Even then, you could still fail…. Determination alone is not going to make you succeed!

I’m sure you are bombarded with systems and programs and training  offers…. There are a lot of good ones… and…. there are some that suck and are a waste of money all together….

My suggestion: Never pay more than $1 for a training program until you know it works!!! I know what you’re thinking…. How do I know it will work unless I pay for it?

The best training programs I have ever seen have a 30 day free trial offer or $1 trial offer. They are so good that you should be making money by the end of the first 30 days and will want to pay the regular price to continue with the training. If not, walk away and you lost nothing… Sounds like a pretty good deal, right?

I have made more progress with free and $1 trial programs than anything else….. It may be that we are just used to getting what we pay for…. after all, you are not going to expect to get much from something you get from the dollar store, right??

Look at this from the trainers eyes…. If he or she helps you to succeed online in the trial period, you are going to pay full price to continue the training…. if the trainer fails to give you what you need to succeed, then you are gone…. They are going to do everything they can to help you succeed if they want to keep you onboard…. Your dollar means nothing to them….

Bottom line, if you want to fail, then DO NOT seek training from someone who has been successful online.

Lack of Organization and Dedication -

A great way to fail is to not set aside time every day to work on your business. It can even better help you to fail if you randomly complete tasks and keep no record of what you are doing or what you should do next. I know this as fact because I have failed miserably using these very techniques…. They are easy to implement and require no change on your part…. the best part is…… you make absolutely no money in the process.

Sounds pretty great, right?

Ok…… I know it is hard to get organized and to dedicate yourself to anything… your life is probably very busy like mine…. and it may seem impossible to stay focused and dedicated to your online business…. Even if you have to go to a coffee shop for a few hours a day to get some peace and quiet….. do what you have to if this is important to you!!!

I am writing this post right now from inside a coffee shop where I have to go to be able to concentrate on my blog. So, I know your frustrations… I have been there, I have fought with my wife, I have felt like giving up, I almost got a divorce at one point…. Don’t let that happen…. Schedule a few hours to get away if you cannot find a quiet place at home to work.

Keep a daily log of your accomplishments and what need to be completed the next day to keep yourself on track…. This will save you a ton of time!

Understand Internet Marketing

Internet marketing is not one thing that can be easily defined. It is many things, just as “marketing” is in the real world…. The best plan of action is to learn one system or strategy, make some money with it, then move on to learn new things. Otherwise you will get stuck in a vicious learning cycle where you may only see failure.

Here are my favorite free and $1 for 30 day training programs:

Recommended Action: dedicate yourself to the training program for 30 days and continue if it is profitable.

Dot Com Secrets X – $1 for 30 day training from an internet multi-millionaire – Free Video

Millionaire Society – Free 30 day trail to a complete internet marketing training course – Free Video

Wealthy Affiliate - Free Internet Wealth Crash Course

* I have taken part in each of these 3 programs and highly recommend what they have to offer.

Next, it’s really up to you…. My promise to you is to constantly provide you with all the support, tips, and advice I can to help you succeed and to overcome some of the hurdles I personally faced, but without having to do it on your own.

Don’t you wish sometimes that you had someone who you could go to when you have a question or when you get stuck? I can be that person….. I don’t have all the answers….. But, I know enough knowledgeable people that I can answer most of your questions fairly quickly…..

So, now that you know how to fail….. Go and succeed online!

  1. Hi Jeremy,

You’ve hit the nail on the head here.

I think we’ve all suffered from info overload at some point. I don’t any more as I only take a mouth full at a time and when I’ve chewed it properly i’ll take another bite.

When i read ebooks now I print them off, bind them with a plastic sleeve and work my way through them. When I get to areas that make me sit and think I make notes on the opposite page so as to help me understand the true meaning. I work through the ebooks like that and when i get to the end i have my very own manual for when i get back to the PC.

The 30 day challenge sounds really good, I’m hearing great things about all over the place so I think I’ll check it out for myself next week. I’d start it now but being Easter weekend we have a 4 day weekend here in the UK and after the video blog challenge i think I’ve earnt a day or two off

Best of luck to you Jeremy

    Have a great Easter mate,

    Hey Barry,

That really is a great idea. I still place ebooks in a folder with the intention of reading them and most of the time never do…

It is very important to take things one bite at a time as you say. It reminds me of the analogy of eating an elephant… Comparing the huge internet world to an elephant. How would you go about eating an elephant? One bite at a time.

The 30 day challenge is full of great training. It’s pretty intense for a newbie, but that is where dedication is important to avoid giving up.

I agree that you do deserve a break, Barry. You have been working hard and deserve a few days to relax.

If you decide to join the 30 day challenge through my link, I would appreciate it since I am still a newbie myself and am not quite making much online yet…

    Enjoy your Easter break, Barry!

    Talk to you again soon,

  2. Hi Jeremy,

Top post you’ve here Jeremy. As Barry said ‘you really have hit the nail on the head’. It is so true, we need to allow our customers to ‘buy’. As an affiliate, one only needs to give the information and their own experiences of a product or service and then leave the selling to the experts.

Information overload and organization are too, very important. Not long ago I cleaned out my mailbox and unsubscribed to almost everything I was subscribed to. Starting again, signing up to the minimum and only what I need. Having too much information coming in really does put your organization out of whack.

Taking ones time to organization, does save time later, you can see the picture as a whole and know where to get started for the day.

Thanks Jeremy, really enjoyed your article here as I’m sure many will.

    Hey Julie,

I think we can all relate to information overload in one way or another.

Our intentions may be good and our desires high, but without the willpower to not take on the entire internet at once, you will find yourself never getting anywhere. Chaos will soon follow if you are not careful… =)

I have been there, and would advise anyone to avoid it at all costs!

    Thanks for stopping by, Julie!

  3. I also agree with all your points here Jeremy..

Information overload kills the majority of people’s ambition. They think the next thing they’ve been presented is going to be the one. They buy it, read it and are even more confused so they go in search of more answers. It’s happened to us all so listen to those people who speak from experience.

I don’t necessary know if it’s that they try to hard or they approach it in the wrong way. You said it right though, people want to be treated like people. They love to buy but not be sold to. So help them learn what it is that they want to know and they’ll always come back around to you.

Lack of training or coaching is crucial. I went it alone for way too long mainly because I honestly didn’t know who the heck I was suppose to be learning from. I admit being so lost when I was new to this so hopefully most people know what they want to do and have a direction they want to take. From there they can locate the right training communities.

To me if you aren’t dedicated to achieving success then you shouldn’t be doing this in the first place. I guess you can just look at this as more of a hobby then. You definitely have to be focused and take massive action but the end results are so worth it.

Thanks for sharing your insights with us Jeremy. Great post…

    Hi Adrienne,

it is difficult to know who to trust and who to learn from at first. It is all new and you don’t know anyone…. So, you start searching, and reading about successful people…. soon, you read some free information and get on some mailing lists…. You may be learning some things and being offered one click ge rich software….. you may even be lucky enough to be offered legitimate products, but may have no idea how to properly use them…….

Soon, you find yourself in a downward spiral, out of control….

My advice to a new internet marketer…. Participate in blogs by commenting and honestly asking when you are stuck… You would be surprised how many people are willing to help!!!

Anyway, Adrienne…. you made me think of that tip, hopefully it will help someone new… =)

    Take care,

  4. Hi Jeremy,

I think information overload is a big problem and then like you said not getting the proper training.

I never knew about $1 trial training programs – wow! Thanks for pointing those out.

Sorry to hear you almost got a divorce over all of this – it should never get to that point. Glad you are getting it worked out now, though.

Getting a break is a MUST! I sat here for several days straight just to get a website up and running and now I am paying for it with my aches and pains and oh so tired!! Not a good thing to do!

I am terrible at organization – I really need to improve on that, my desk and my office are a disaster within themselves – ugh! It’s pretty bad. I have so many folders every where and just so much of everything. I got a huge pile of papers on top of my printer, under my desk – everywhere and they are all important. I really need to go through them all again, especially since I can never find what I need.

Thanks for the awesome post, Jeremy. Sometimes I think we need a little reminder about certain things :)

Hope you have a wonderful Easter.

    Hi Linda,

Yeah there are some great free and $1 offers that deliver. As for organization…. Well, I may know how important it is and how much easier it can make things, but I am struggling with it as well…..

I have a filing cabinet…. it is crammed full and I could spend an hour searching for something in it…. My PC is a little more organized, but I still find myself searching for certain files that I know are round here somewhere…. lol

Organization is something that we should all work on regularly to better ourselves, our lives, and our businesses….

    Take care and Happy Easter!

  5. I think the problem with 30-day money-back programs is you frequently don’t see results until after about 3-4 months, so can’t really say if a program worked. Am currently in that situation with a program I bought — It’s only been about six weeks, so am seeing some results but not what I expected. Unfortunately, I’m past the one-month deadline.

Participating in forums and blogs, as you advised, has been very helpful.

    Hey Leo,

I completely agree with you. People are skeptical of 30 day trial programs for good reason. That is why when I start a 30 program I have 2 rules I always follow:

    1) I never invest more than $5 for the first month of the program

    2) I put a reminder in my phone for when my 30 days is up and if I have not made at least enough money to cover the cost of the next month, I cancel.

The programs I listed are not money back programs, there is $1 or less investment in the first place.

The only way they will make anything off of the training program itself is if you are making money in the first 30 days. So, the incentive is there for them to deliver good enough training that most of their students or members will see success.

  7. Agree with your reasons why many fail even if I don’t agree with the 3 programs you promote. There is ample FREE IM training available online – probably far too much in that many who succumb to all those squeeze pages offering this freebie and that freebie get their hard drives overloaded with ebooks that they probably never read. Best idea is to find someone who is successful who you can relate to and who is willing to be your mentor.

    Hey Jon,

There is plenty of free internet marketing training available, the problem is just that… what information do you take action on? There is far too much to learn all at once and to take action on… what do you start with? whats the easiest way to start? What strategies will make me money in the future?… so many questions and so difficult to find answers to the important answers….

If you can manage to find someone who is willing to be your mentor, than you are golden. Some very successful marketers are willing to mentor people for a price. Usually $1,000 or more; which is fair considering how much money their time is really worth.

Or you could get lucky and find someone who is willing to take you under their wing simply because they see potential in you and wish to partner with you once you are fully trained….

To be honest, this happened to me….. this is why I am here on this blog right now…. I struggled for years and made $50 a month at the most until this year I began working with Kerry Russell who is mentoring me and I will be working with her to build our business together… She is far more advanced than me, of course, but is helping me get to the point where I might top the same to help others as she helped me….

That is the only reason I do not offer to mentor anyone personally… I will help anyone get started and bring you to the point where I am at… but that’s as far as my experience allows….

Anyway, thanks for stopping by, Jon!

hope to see you again soon,

  8. I think lack of dedication or focus is a big problem for most people. Firstly, they are told that you don’t need dedication and focus by some programs so their mindset is screwed up before they even get started. For others that are more realistic, it might not always dawn on them that they are the worker and the boss of their fledgling business. For people that have only ever been the worker, the extra responsibility can be too much or push them out of the comfort zone. How you respond to that kind of pressure can make or break your endeavors online.

    Hi Ade,

I agree with you that peoples mindset is often times clouded by get rich quick, make money while you sleep programs with a lot of false promises and false hope.

There are training programs out there that really can help someone who is willing to do the work to succeed. But, you are right, they do need to be willing to do all of the word and be dedicated unless you have a lot of money to invest to outsource and manage the whole process. Even then, you still need to be dedicated.

    Thanks for your feedback, Ade!
