My First Click Bank Payday – And A Valuable Lesson Learned

I have been working hard since the beginning of the year to really build my online business. After all, there is a lot to learn and it can get a bit overwhelming at times.

I have several projects going on and I really have not had much, if any, success with them so far.

Well, I checked my Clickbank account recently, and guess what??

GOOD NEWS!!

I made enough money and met the criteria to receive my first PAY DAY from Clickbank!!

I’m super excited!! It’s not very much money, but to me, it represents overcoming an obstacle that I’ve been stuck behind for too long…

Here’s a screen shot… I want to show off my first check… :)

Make money online with affiliate marketing

If you’re not sure what Clickbank is, check them out at clickbank.com. They are basically an affiliate promotion site where people who have products and services go to find others to promote them and are willing to pay out up to a 75% commission. I use Clickbank as an affiliate and promote products for commissions. Clickbank is 100% free to join.

Affiliate marketing is one great way to make money online with minimal investment of time or money.

I have often heard people say how lazy they are and yet they managed to make $10,000 a month online only working 5 hours a week.

That’s all great, and I AM LAZY!

AND… I have worked MORE than 5 hours a week!!

AND… I have just made my first $144 paycheck!!

SO… HOW do you make so much money online only working 5 hours a week?!?!

THE ANSWER…. Either, they have the money to outsource everything, meaning that they can pay someone to write their content, build their backlinks, etc…

OR… they have the training and knowledge required to know exactly what to do

OR… they have a personal coach…

I have had NONE of those…. HOW about YOU?!

HOWEVER… If you do stick to ONE project and learn as much about it as you can as you go, you can make money online with it… probably faster than I did since I am guilty of not finishing what I start.

SOON ENOUGH… You may be able to say that you can work only 5-10 hours a week and make a full time income.

BUT… That is a goal to set for yourself that can be attained as you grow your business and learn about online business.

What I have learned about making money online with affiliate marketing

This is the first step… the accomplishment of my first goal…. to make my first $100 online…. next goal… my first $1,000

So, Now that I have finally made my first paycheck… obviously not enough to quit my day job… BUT, enough to give me the motivation to know that I CAN DO IT… and enough to make my wife have some faith that what I have been working and telling her so much about will actually pay off…. :)

What I have learned about making money online is that it takes dedication!

It takes focus!

You have to finish what you start!

I got wrapped up in so many different “make money online” strategies, that whenever I started a project and didn’t see instant results, I quickly got distracted by something else and started a new project thinking I would go back to the previous one later.

Whatever you do…. DON’T do that!

You can easily waste 2 years doing nothing and making nothing!

As my momma always told me…

Finish what you start!

It sounds simple enough… and it can be…. but I do understand that there are sooooo many people telling you that THIS IS THE BEST WAY TO MAKE MONEY ONLINE.

Once you realize that there are literally thousands of ways to make money online, you will soon see that you can take full advantage many of them, BUT…. you must start with one.

I started 2012 with the mindset that I was going to succeed, that I was going to make money online and build my business.

Here are some of the Internet Marketing resources I have used so far this year:

Dot Com Secrets X – Free 30 Day training – One on one daily video training

Wealthy Affiliate – Free 10 Day training starting May 1st – Daily video training, Forum, and Internet marketing community

So, have you made your first $100 online? $1,000? I’d love to hear about it…

Are you stuck? Not sure where to start? Leave a comment and I’ll point you in the right direction.

Best of luck to you,

~Jeremy Ruggles

  1. Congratulations Jeremy! Well done my friend.

I know that some people start diving into Clickbank and then get discouraged because they obviously didn’t read where it says you have to make $100 before they’ll send you a live check. I remember when I got my first one, I was so excited too.

I actually learned from a simple $37 eBook a few years ago how to promote products through Clickbank Jeremy and I made three sales my first week which was $75 profit for me. Talk about excited and that was motivation to keep on going.

I have no doubt that this is the first of many more to come and you’ll be teaching all of us what you did to get there. I can’t wait for that day my friend.

    Now enjoy your week.

    Thanks Adrienne,

I made my first couple of sales in my first week or two from starting and I learned from a free online course, but once I got those sales, I got kinda stuck…

I had a newborn, I was moving, I made changes to what I was doing that I though would increase sales, but only hurt them…. I was new and life got in the way of internet marketing…. lol

It’s when you find that balance between work and family time that you start to see success. Then came trying to figure out why I was not getting paid when I had money sitting in my Clickbank account….

I found out that not only do you have to have $100, but you have to have transactions from 5 different credit cards before releasing your first payment because they have had people create accounts and buy product on their own affiliate link to get a discount.

I am past that hurdle now and on my way to more paydays…. :)

  2. Jeremy, that is such a rush! A tip for Amazon affiliates: If they send you a check when you make your first $100, they charge a $15 check fee. Ouch! I’m getting close and will soon give them my direct deposit info. It is a LOT of work to make money online but so sweet to get a payment.

    Hey Corky,

Yeah checks can be expensive. Clickbank charges $2.50 I think. Direct deposit is the way to go for sure.

You are correct, it is a lot of work getting started, but it will be worth it in the end. I have not used Amazon yet, but have contemplated going that route.

How have you done so far as an Amazon affiliate?

Let me know when you get your first payday, I’d love to hear about it!!

I’ve been using clickbank for 2 years and it was few months ago when I crossed the $1000 mark.

You’re just getting started and I’ve no doubt that you will achieve the $1000 target too in the few months.

    Thanks Leo,

All of the affiliate commissions earned on this paycheck were from a relationship niche site that I have had up for a year or more.

I first earned some commissions immediately without a site using Squidoo. But, I made some newbie mistakes and got my lens banned accidentally, so I decided to try my luck with my own site. This was my first stand alone affiliate niche site.

As I learn more about the process and perfect it, I will be sure to forward the information to my blog.

  6. Good job Jeremy! Affiliate marketing has gotten a lot tougher the last couple of years with all the competition and government regulation but you can still hit your $1000 mark soon. I decided to create products for Clickbank and that got me there much faster than promoting other people’s products so give that a shot and you may soon find yourself doing this full-time!

    Hey Colin,

Yeah, I have been learning during the time that Google has been cracking down, competition has gotten huge, and government regulations have gotten more strict…. like you were saying…

I have always been interested in creating products, I have just not yet learned enough to create a high quality product yet. I’m sure if I put my mind to it and focused my attention on it, i could come up with my first product….

Internet marketing is my dream career… I aspire to go full time with it. Affiliate marketing is just a beginning step for me in the right direction. I will always have affiliate marketing campaigns, but I could very well branch off into other aspects of internet marketing.

If you have any advice for a newbie to clickbank product creation, please share. I am very interested in creating my first product.

    Thanks,

    Hey John,

I agree that affiliate marketing is a great way to make money online. There is definitely a learning curve, as with anything, and your first success can take some time unless you have really good training and you dedicate your time to implementing that training.

Good luck to you on achieving your first payday! Do NOT give up!! I did give up a few times and it caused me to waste a lot of valuable time… :)

If you have any specific questions in regard to affiliate marketing, please ask…. If I do not know the answer, I will find it!

  8. Hi Jeremy,

Congratulations on getting a paycheck so soon after coming online. It doesn’t matter what amount it was, its the fact that you’ve got it and have met the terms and conditions (ie 5 card payments). Now that you have done so you’ll grow and get bigger cheques.

Those people that say they work 5 hours and make large amounts have been working hard to build a responsive list or take training on how to promote and review products, that takes more than 5 hours. In fact it can take years to build that up but once its built up then maybe they can work 5 hours and make real serious money but ask them how long it took them to get to that point ;)

Mamma was right mate, one thing at a time and get it finished before moving on.

Best of luck to you Jeremy :)

I was pretty excited. It marks an important accomplishment in the beginning my my online business.

I was almost one of those 90% as I had forgotten about my clickbank account and lost motivation to continue on at one point when I had like $80 sitting there… I began being charged, I think it was, $1 a day fee for a dormant account, when I decided to go check it and seriously give it another try….

It can really be hard to not let daily life and events get in the way of building online success…

I am not giving up though!! :)

I have yes Jeremy, not as much as I’d like but I’m very picky in what I promote and how I promote it.

When I first started I would put almost anything out to my list but didn’t have much joy, a few sales here and there but nothing to shout about.

It took me ages to get my first cheque and I often saw Clickbank taking it back until I hit the 5 cards needed. Everyone seems to use Paypal these days.

    Speak soon mate :)

  10. Well done on the first check…it can get quite addictive watching the red and green lines when it first happens. I still log in each morning and at the end of the day to see what sales I have made. Could probably use the time way more productively but it feels like a guilty pleasure…oh dear….I really need to get out more often.

    Hi Jeremy,

You are just dancing with the Penguin :)

Google’s most recent algorithm update could be the reason. The three things to check for are: over-optimized anchor text in your backlinks (mix it up a little rather than all having the same keyword in the anchor text), low quality backlinks, and too much advertising above the fold, especially in the sidebars.

I would also just sit it out for a couple of weeks. I had a similar thing happen to one of my websites, and it bounced back by itself after (a very long) two weeks.

    All the best!
